Thread artist Bridget O’Flaherty

There are those of us who use fabric to quilt, then there are those who use thread to paint. Bridget is an exceptionally talented artist who never ceases to amaze me with what she can do with her sewing machine. Her embroidery work is so textured and layered it could easily be mistaken for a watercolour or oil painting.

I’ve known Bridget for 10 years now, and have been lucky enough to buy one of her yearly calendars for some of those – not nearly enough. I picked up the 2011 calendar last weekend!

Using photographs for inspiration, Bridget captures the grandeur and beauty of Canadian scenery. Click on each image for a close up of the incredible detail work!(You’ll have to ignore my photographs – they definitely don’t do justice to the pieces!)

Check out her work on her website or at the Riverguild Fine Arts Gallery in Perth, Ontario.
